NIT to rope in expert officers for Metro Rail project
NAGPUR Improvement Trust (NIT) is likely to appoint expert Executive Engineers for Metro Rail in the city. The proposal to appoint lour executive engineers for civil works, traction. rolling stocks and special projects will be placed before Board of Trustees in meeting slated on May 28 at NIT. Sources claimed that for mer BJP National President Nitin Gadkari will take up this issue with the Central Government and get early clearance.
Reliable sources confirmed that presently. NIT does not have any expertise in the field of Metro Rail. NIT is a nodal agency, and it has prepared draft report of Metro Rail by roping in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The NIT is taking help from DMRC for this herculean task but it also requires some expert members to clear files at Mumbai and Delhi level. Sources claimed that documental ion. follow ups and during construction of Metro Rail, (he Trusi will require maximum manpower to complete the lask. The Trusi may give chance (o former Engineers of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Indian Railways. ITMC. and other department lo achieve (he (ask. These experts will be deployed on deputation from the Government department till (he time of completion of Metro Rail.
It may be mentioned that Maharashtra Government has formed Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation (NMRO) to construct Metro Rail in (he Orange city. The Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) -II Government did not give clearanccs for equity in Joint Venture project.
The Central Government has given only in-principle nod to the project, before the announcement of Lok Sabha elections. State Government lias already given green signal to it.
It may be mentioned that Nagpur Metro Rail project's estimated cost of Rs 8,680 crorc was sanctioned by the Slate Government in January. The rail system will be a 38.2 km project with two lines. U is expected to be commissioned in six years from the date of commencement.
The two lines include one line running from Automotive Chowk to Multimodal International Cargo Hub and Prajapati Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar.
In the project, the central government will have 20 per cent stake, the State Government will have 20 per cent share. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and NIT will hold live per cent each, and the remaining 50 per cent will be raised through loans and other sources.
