NAGPUR Municipal Corporation (NMC) has started property survey of Jail ward (old ward 5) on pilot basis to initiate reforms in property tax administration. Union Urban Development Department has selected NMC for this ambitious programme. The project is sponsored by World hank and involves five other municipalities across the country Dehradun, Cuttack. Haridwar, Puri and Chhindwara. Nagpur is the only city selected in Maharashtra for this project.
Municipal Commissioner Shyam Wardhane informed media persons that the survey will be concluded in November 2014. The objective of this pilot project is to streamline the process around property data collection, assessment and setup a citizen friendly tax administration. The use of culling-edge information technology and implementation of global best-practices will enable this.
The local body has planned various reforms to make the property lax assessment and administration more transparent, equitable and citizen friendly. The survey involves gathering information from residents about their property lax grievances Slices in dealing with NMC and suggestion 10 improve the resolution process. A South African company Data World has been selected for the pilot project implementation.
