Abolish Local Body Tax in next 10 days, BJP to CM
AFTER unprecedented victory in recently held Lok Sabha election, charged up Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) warned of intensifying its agitation to press Tor its long-pending issue of Local Body Tax (LBT), if Maharashtra Government fails to abolish LBT in the next 10 days.
"We have been agitating for about 3 years. We. now. ask State Government to abolish LBT in the next 10 days. If it fails to do so, we will intensify the agitation and stage stage gherao of the Chief Minister. "BJP Mumbai Unit President Ashish Shelar said.
Shelar accused State
Government, especially Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, of forcefully imposing LBT on Maharashtra in 2010. He alleged that LBT will give rise to tax evasion practices, which will ultimately harm the economy.
"We have been constantly speaking about the demerits of LBT. One of which is it will bring back Inspector Raj in Maharashtra. LBT will also increase the scope of tax evasion. This will become a hurdle for the industrial and economic growth of the state and of the country." Shelar said.
Ii may be mentioned that Maharashtra Government is already considering to abolish LBT in the state after debacle in the election. As per report.
