Din in CMC meeting over mobile towers
THE general meeting of Chandrapur Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Monday afternoon turned into a tumultuous affair on Monday after corporators from Congress Democratic Alliance (CDA) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised a din over permission to installation of new mobile phone towers all over the district. On the call to hold voting on the issue, the Mayor. Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee Chairman left (he House, adding fuel lo the fire.
During the meeting, when Clause No 19 of the previous meeting held on May 29 was introduced again for discussion, 34 corporators of CDA and 16 of BJP became aggressive. The topic of discussion was granting permission for installation of mobile towers, underground cabling and chambers of Reliance Company in the city. Considering health hazards of the mobile towers for general public, all the 34 CDA corporators and 16 BJP corporators staged protest. While the discussion was going on. CDA corporators Prashant Danao. Gajanan Gawande. Sunita Agrawal. Anita Kathade. BJP corporators Rahul Pawade, Vanashri Gedam. Balram Dodani and others took an aggressive stand and demanded to conduct voting in this regard.
Rajesh Mohite. Deputy Commissioner of CMC. admitted that the information about side-effects of radiations created by the mobile lowers were not informed during the previous public meet on May 29. At another point, when Gajanan Gawande stood up to speak, Tiwari. Chairman of Standing Committee, objected that the Co-opted Members were not allowed to speak during the meeting, To this. the Commissioner said that the Co-opted Members can speak or discuss as per the norms of Municipal Corporation.
BJP corporator Rahul Pawade asked if it was true that Reliance Company had started installation of mobile tower before receiving CMC nod. Later, the Commissioner men-(toned thai ii will he mentioned in the proceedings of the meeting that 34 CDA corporators and 16 BJPcor-porators have rejected the proposal of mobile towers' installation. He further informed that the copy and video cassette of the proceedings will be given and names of the corporators who expressed protest against the proposal will be recorded.
When it was the turn to conduct voting in this regard. Sangita Amrutkar. Mayor. Sandeep Awari. Deputy Mayor, and Ramu Tiwari. Chairman of Standing Committee, left the house and therefore voting could not lake place.
When asked about it. Sangita Amrutkar said that CMC had granted permission for underground cabling only and not for installation of mobile towers.
