57% less rainfall in June worries Vidarbha people
rainfall in Akola is categorised as deficit and is -83% rainfall till June 26 while Buldana and Yavatmal have also registered lesser rainfall of -81^ and -61% respectively.
Though not exactly a good sign but comparatively in Nagpur the shortage is of -44%.
As per IMD the actual rainfall occurred in Vidarbha district till June 26 is 56 mm. where the normal average rainfall during the season is 130.2 mm. Hence the rainfall occurred is -57% less till June 26.
At Akola it is 113.2 mm but the rainfall registered till June 26 is only 19.2 mm. Buldhana's normal rainfall figure is 114 mm but there only 21.7 mm is recorded (ill date. The normal rainfall at Yavatmal is 124.5 mm. till June 26 the rainfall registered here is 69.6 mm which is -44% less.
Last year excess rain resulted in flood situation throughout the district but this year the situation is exactly reverse.IMD's Doppler Radar is still waiting for the central government clearance for it maintenance. The radar has stopped working from September. 2013. due to some technical breakdown.
According to a senior official. the Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) of the radar is still on a waiting status in New Delhi. For AMC clearance it will take another four months.
As per the senior official, a new Doppler radar is going to be inaugurated in Bhopal soon and that time the maintenance team from New Delhi will remain present there. Thereafter. Indian Meteorological Department is planning to call them in Nagpur for the maintenance.
Currently. Indian Meteorological Department is getting the satellite images and also gelling data from the radar installed at Airport.IMD expect normal monsoon 10 start from June 28 onwards in Vidarbha, particularly Eastern districts. But regions like Akola, Buldana and Yavatmal may witness quite less than normal monsoon, informed Assistant Meteorologist R D Meshram lo The Mitavada.
He discounted the El-Nino theory and it affecting the monsoon progress and added that in July and August the rainfall is going to makeup the deficit of June.
Local administration in the district are already geared up for any incident due to heavy rain hut this prediction will change the situation of preparation for every administration in the region.
