HG appoints committee under Chief Secy to suggest measures for easing parking problem

JUSTICE Bhushan Gavai and Justice S B Shukre ai the High Coon here, on Wednesday, appointed a committee of lop officials headed by State Chief Secretary to suggest short and long-term concrete measures for easing parking problems and submit a report in three months.
The High Court direclions came after going through [lie affidavits filed by Manu Kumar Srivastava. Principal Secretary, Maharashtra Urban Development Department (UD-l), and Shyam Wardhane. Nagpur Municipal Commissioner. The committee will also comprise Principal Secretary. Urban Development; Transport Secretary; Transport Commissioner: Vice Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Chairman of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT); City Police Commissioner. Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development           Corporation
(MSRDC); and Nagpur District Collector.
The committee has been asked to have in-depth study of problems relating tocongestionof traffic and severe shortage and almost unimaginative management of parking spaces in the city and to suggest short and long term concrete measures for easing these problems through its report in three months.
Shrirang Bhandarkar. Slink.mi Khandalkar. and B G Kulkarni ~ the counsels for petitioners - pointed out that after operation of the city buses changing hands from MSRTC to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). these buses were being parked arbitrarily anywhere and everywhere on the roads near Rani Jhansi Square to Lokmat Square and wherever drivers found place to stop. This was causing problems to all road users. One of the petitioners himself complained
