HC tells MCI to file reply today
High Conn here. During the hearing on the PIL on Wednesday. Justice Bhushan Gavai and Jusiice S B Shukre asked MCI to inform the court within three days if it was ready to conduct inspection in this regard.
Adv Jugalkishore Gilda. representing the petitioner, informed the court during the hearing that Central Government had decided to start eight new medical colleges across the country under its scheme. These eight new colleges included the one at Gondia also. Central Government had granted in principle nod to expenditure of Rs 189 crore for Gondia Medical College. However, the Slate Government wanted to utilise Rs 25 crore as administrative expenses.
After taking (he decision, (he Central Government sent a letter to Slate Government on February 19. 2014. The letter reached State Government's Mantralaya on february 22. but the State Government did not find time to lake a look at the letter till March 18. As a result, it did not reply to the same and no further action could be taken on ground regarding Gondia Medical College. Adv Gilda alleged that the Medical Education Ministry wrote to Director of Medical Education and Research on April I. though the process was required to he completed by March 15.
The State Government stated that the process could not be completed as the Model Code of Conduct
