Though absolute absence of rains nil now has increased worries of farmers and people in general. Agriculture Department feels that there are still 15 days in hand so that sowing of all crops can be done in the Amravati division in this Kliarip season. Till July 15. there is scope of normal sowing of Kharip season but the situation would become critical if rains remain elusive even after this date.
In spite of end of Mrig Nakshatra' and almost 15 days after the start of normal rainy season, rains have not blessed the division as yet. Farmers are waiting for some good showers so that they can start sowing operations in the fields. Though some courageous souls have already taken up sowing in this Kharip season.

As  indicated by meteorology department, lack of rains due to El Nino effect is creating drought like Mtuation. Though the situation is worsening with each passing day. Agriculture Department still feels that there are 15 to 20 days with the farmers. The Department, denying that there is a possibility of drought like situation, has said that sowing of all normal crops is possible, provided rains come within next 15 days.

Sowing of all crops like soyabean, cotton, tur. moong. urad is possible till July 15. says the Department. If. even after that dale, the Rain God. does not bless, then farmers would have to skip Moong and tlrad crops. Considering the absence of rains yet. Agriculture Department of Amravati division, has sent a proposal of postponing last date of Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme. To get benefit of this insurance scheme, it is necessary for fanners to complete actual sowing and obtain sowing certificate. The last date for scheme is June 30. "As not much sowing has been done in all fivedistricts of Amravati division ycl, we have sent a proposal lo the Slate Government to give extension to this crop insurance scheme till July 30. We are wailing for the decision at the higher level," said Ashok I .Lokhande. Joint Director of Agriculture, Amravati.
