NMC's budget in July
THE annual budget of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is likely to be delayed in current financial year due to Graduates' Constituency Election. BJP has declared candidature of Mayor Anil Sole for the Election. Standing Committee Chief Narendra Borkar will present budget in the first week of July.
Sources informed that Mayor, who is contesting electionof Graduate Constituency for LegislativeCouncil. could not chair the general body meeting of NMC.
Deputy Mayor Jaitunbi is not in a position to chair the meeting for long time as she cannot speak a weird in the general body. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Nagpur Vilas Aghadi do not want to take any chance to organise meeting under Deputy Mayor's leadership.
All the corporators are busy in Graduates' Constituency election, therefore, the budget will be delayed by a month.
Narendra Borkar has been elected as Standing Committee Chairman in the month of March. However, he could not hold any meeting due to the model code of conduct during Lok Sabha polls. After Lok Sabha election, the code of conduct forGraduates" Constituency election was announced. Though, this has not affected day to day functioning of local body. but BJ P has announced candidature of Anil Sole.
Therefore. NMC is facing problem to organise meeting of budget.
Borkar has very less time to pass and implement his budget because in August, the code of conduct for State Assembly election will be in place.
The election code of conduct will conclude in September month. This is followed by festival season which begins in October. The Standing Panel chief will get only October. November and December to pass the tenders and start developmental work. The works will continue till Commissioner's budget is presented in February.
Therefore, it is very crucial time for Borkar to show his performance before the citizens of Nagpur.
