Court to announce quantum of punishment today: Robbery at Khandelwal Jewellers
DISTRICT and Sessions Judge S S Das has convicted eight accused in the Khandelwal Jewellers robbery case that had taken place in Amravati on August 31.2010. Court has acquitted three others in this case. Nature of the punishment to the convicts will be announced by the court on August 5.
As per details, a robbery was executed at Khandelwal Jewellers' shop in JaiStambha Square on August 31. 2010. Gold ornaments had been looted at gun point in broad daylight. Police started investigation on the basis of the CCTV footage of the accused. Earlier complaint by shopowner stated that the robbers had taken away gold ornaments worth Rs 50 lakh but later some of the gold was found was found itself. Amravali Police had formed various teams 10 nab the accused and had arrested 11 persons including John alias Janardan Waghmare and Rafique Sheikh Nabi Sheikh Nagar from Rani Bannore village in Karnataka. Police had also arrested Dilip alias Ramrao Korde, Bhadegaon. Omprakash Bharat Bhalkar (35), Akola. Anil Bhagwai Mohankar(2S). Am. Dilip KisanWagh(31), Morshi. Shivaji Vitthal Bhosale(28). Hingoli. Sheikh Salim Sheikh Farid (39), Risod, Nasrin Bano Rafique Sheikh (32). Karnataka. Anjali Janardan Waghmare, Hingoli and Tanya alias Tanaji Bhosale.

City Kotwali Police had booked all of them under relevant sections for dacoily and later had imposed Maharashtra Control of Organise Crime Act (MCOCA) over them.After investigating the case, police submitted chargesheet in the court.

Rafique Sheikh Nabi Sheikh. Omprakash Bhatkar. Anil Mohankar. Dilip Wagh. NasrinBano Rafique Sheikh. Anjali Waghmare and Tanya alias Tanaji Bhosale. Court has acquitted three accused including Dilip alias Ramrao Korde. Shivaji Vitthal Bhosale and Sheikh Salim Sheikh Farid due to lack of evidence against them.
Court is expected to declare the punishment to convicted accused on August 5.
Adv Amar Deshmukh and Adv Amar Kale were the public prosecutor in the case.
