Panchmatiya objects to powers given for LBT raid
FEDERATION of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM). Mumhai recently organised important meeting at Mumbai to take certain decisions regarding against LBT Octroi. Mayur Panchmatiya. newly-elected President of NVCC attended the meeting. Mohan Gurnani, President of FAM welcomed him.
While addressing the representatives of trade and industries of 25 municipal corporations of Maharashtra who were present, Gurnani said that in the wake of shocking and thoughtless decision taken by the Chief Minister that instead of removal of Octroi and LBT. the municipal corporations may decide to continue with either Octroi or LBT as per their own choice. Every one present in the meeting expressed shock and felt betrayed. This once again proves the indecisive nature of die Government. "The irade and industries in Maharashtra are fighting against Octroi since last 30 years for abolishing Octroi which has been termed as the most regressive tax by the entire world. In the year 2005 while implementing VAT Government had assured the citizens of Maharashtra that it will remove Octroi if VAT collections surpassed (he then existing Sales Tax collection which was Rs 15.000 crore. But instead of removing Octroi. State Government replaced it with LBT in phased manner since past 3 years except in Munibai/hesaid. For which entire Maharashtra including Mumbai is agitating to remove LBT and Octroi from Maharashtra and submerged the tax into VAT. "The VAT collection of Maharashtra has increased from Rs 15.000 crore in 2005 to 72.000 crore in 2013 - 14. but still the Government's greed is not satisfied." Gurnani pointed out.
"The general public including trade and industries are confused by (his illogical and impractical decision of government. How can there be two different laws in one State prevailing for the same purpose," he argued.
During last Lok Sabha election, the State Government failed to estimate the voting strength of trading community in Maharashtra and suffered a humiliating defeat. "We once again warn the political parties not to under estimate the united strength of business community of Maharashtra." Gurnani cautioned.
"If the State Government fails to remove LBT and Octroi before the Code of Conduct is imposed in Maharashtra, the trade and industry of Maharashtra will execute their voting right unitedly and will vote for the only political party/parties which gives us in writing that no sooner they come to power, they will immediately, within two months of formation of new Cabinet will abolish Octroi and LBT without replacing it with another tax." he said. "The citizens of Maharashtra deserve a fair deal from the Government and. hence it was to support only those political parties in the coming Assembly elections who assure us these things in writing." he said
Mayur Panematiya. strongly objected to the powers given to Municipal Commissioner regarding raids and further increase in rates of LBT. The strong feelings of all the representatives in the meeting were for indefinite bandh and it was urged to at least observe one-day token 'Maharashtra Bandh.' However. Mohan Gurnani along with his core team felt thai due to on-going festival season, and coming Ganeshotsav, any bandh would cause great inconvenience to the general public of Maharashtra and hence it was unanimously decided not to declare any Bandh and to continue with on-going non-cooperation movement only, informs a press release issued here.
