'Women must not be treated as objects'
PEOPLE watch, listen, empathise and forget but do nothing further about any untoward incident. But this young Manisha Mohan, an aeronautical engineering student from Chcnnai has made her different identity with the innovation which has been honoured by none other than the President of India, under the President of India's innovation, scholar-in residence scheme.
"She has done a work that has made her identity by leaving footprints for others to follow." said Dr Nishi Chourasia. after her interaction at the TiEcon 2014. which received a standing ovation from the entire august audience on Day I of the event.
When others were shouting slogans, taking rallies, etc after the December 18.2012 'Nirbhaya' incident. Manisha Mohan was shocked. "It's my responsibility to do something for the society. I was restless and was burnt with the pains of that victim girl." Manisha Mohan said. The 22-year-old girl started thinking on the issue. She decided to invent such a product that can be used as a weapon for safety by the girls. The idea took shape in the form of an instrument called Society Harnessing Equipment 'She, an electric bra which contains a pressure sensor that is connected to an electric circuit and this generates the shock. Firstly, the system is placed in a bi-laver fabric. which ensures insulation to the victim. The micro-mechanical device can generate shocks upto 700 degree centigrade within 5 seconds and can immediately turn off. The device can produce 210 shocks al a stretch. On March 25.2013 she was awarded with the 'Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award' and a recognition from the Rashtrapati Bhavan. From starting of her career she was into practice of learning through doing it practically. Her invention was totally different from her main stream syllabus hut her two patents were also
