Washim faces water crisis in monsoon!


IN AN UNPRECEDENTED situation this year, over 108 villages are facing the problems of drinking water due to less rains recorded in Washim district. District administration has chalked out a programme for supply of drinking water to the affected villages through the tankers.
The wells are also being acquired for supply of drinking water. District administration has also proposed to take up programmes for the recharging of wells jointly with the cooperation of the Revenue. Agriculture and Panchayat Samiti departments.
Though, half of the rainy season is over, water level is not satisfactory and the water reservoirs are still not filled well. Il is an unprecedented situation that in the month of August, the villages in the district are facing shortage of drinking water.
As per information, the villages which are facing the problems of drinking water are: Washim (22). Karanja (28). Malegaon (20). Manora (8). Mangrulpir ( 20) and Riosd (10). Taking into consideration the scarcity of drinking water, the district administration has also proposed the works of water conservation. The works of recharging of wells will also be undertaken on priority. The action plans are being chalked out by Agriculture Department under the supcrv ision of Revenue Department. Administrative approval to such works will accorded by Revenue Department. MEET HELD: In order to overcome the crisis of drinking water, a meeting was held recent ly. Sub Divisional Officer Ashok Amankar chaired the meet.
The officers of Revenue. Agriculture. Panchayal samiti departments were also present. Amankar asked the officers to chalk out action plans on priority to overcome water crisis. The officers also discussed various measures to overcome die crisis being faced by fifty two villages in Washim, Riosd and Malegaon lehsils. The gram sevaks and talatis were also ;iskcd to propose the works of water conservation under the Employment Guarantee scheme. Tehsildars of Washim. Riosd. and Malegaon Ashish Bijbal. Amol Kumbhar, Ravi Kale. Naib-tehsildars. circle inspectors, gram sevaks and talatis were also present in the meeting.
