We are targeting Hamas only in self-defence, claims Isreali diplomat
ISRAEL has justified attack against 'terrorist organisation' Hamas for safeguarding lives of their people. Matan Zamir. Deputy Chief of Mission. Consulate General of Israel in Mumbai. alleged, that Hamas was violating the ceasefire in Gaza strip and said, air strikes launched by it were not aimed at Palestiniaas living in war-torn zone. Zamir also disputed the number of casualties in Gaza strip during the 23-day conflict. He said. "Air strikes on Gaza strip are not against the people there but against the terror organisation Hamas. They (Hamas) have built a three-km terror tunnel for smuggling arms, weapons and drugs and Israel are targeting to snap that link. Every cease-fire, be it on humanitarian ground or on the occasion of Ramadan Eid. the Hamas has violated it," he alleged.
Zamir was here on a visit to Bhonsala Military School for exploring the possibilities of extending co-operation in the area of education, and particularly military education. To a query that the number of fatalities on Palestinian side has crossed 1.2(H). Zamir said, "Don't go by the figure of casualties in Gaza but also count the number of missile the Hamas has fired on Israel."
Zamir alleged that Hamas has fired about 2.800 missiles on Israel in last 23 days. Israel has developed modern technique to diffuse the missiles before it hurt to residential areas. This has reduced fatalities up to 53 only. Comparing Hamas with terror outfits like AI-Qaeda and Boko 11.1 ram. he said that Hamas is using Sbeba Hospital in Gaza as a shelter. "While only top floor of the hospital is used for patients, the basement (at the hospital) is used for storing missiles and other weapons. The international media is also on one of the floors (of the hospital)." the envoy said, adding that Hamas is also using a school to stockpile missiles.
On co-operation with Maharashtra government on education, Zamir said the Consulate had meetings with state Chief Minister Priihviraj Chavan, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Education Minister Rajendra Darda and Education Secretary on various occasions and is keen on a "staunch cooperation between the two in the field of education." He said the Consulate recently con-ducted a workshop for teachers and trainers in Mumbai. His Government is also providing help in Military Education in India. Israel is very efficient in Military Training.
The country has three world-class universities. Israel has collaboration with Indian top class education institutes too. Israel has opened four centres are in Maharashtra to provide technical help to fanners. A centre is also situated in Nagpur. They are giving training to increase agriculture produce in their farm. He said, a cow of Israel is giving 42 litres of milk daily. Secretary BMS Shailesh Joglekar. Tarun Patel, Rahul Chourasia and Dtlip Chavan were present during discussion.
