Unable to pay heavy power bill, poor woman commits suicide
ALLEGING harassment and humiliation caused due to exorbitant and excessive power bill, a woman committed suicide by hanging herself to ceiling hook at her rented house under the jurisdiciton of Jaripatka police station on Wednesday night. Additional police bandobast was deployed in ihe area immedielely after the incident, as ihc tension gripped against Spanco Nagpur Discom Ltd (SNDL).
According to police. Dipmala ECailas Kuril (30). a resident of Plot No. 67, Housing Board Colony. Bhim Nagar Square, was living at rented house of Ravi Kadam. Kadam had recently installed a new meter for the tenant.
Dipa received shock when she got a power bill of Rs 11.000. As she could not pay the bill. Spanco Nagpur Discom Ltd had disconnected her power connection. Depressed over the disconnection and burden of heavy dues of power bills, die poor woman committed sucide by hanging herself with odhni. said PSI Ishwar Hanwate who conducted the spotpanchanama.
She leaves behind husband, 12-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son. Jaripatka police have registered a case of accidental death and started investigation. SNDL Public Relat ion Office Amey Pathak denied any harassment by Spanco Nagpur Discom Ltd and claimed that disconnection must have been done as per legal procedure.
