The morcha was taken out close on the heels of 'Dhikkar Morcha' of Dhangar community last week. According lo Sunil Dhurvc, President of Adiwasi Students' Federation, and Gajanan Kumre, Secretary, "many noniribal communities including Dhangar' had started agitations to press for their inclusion in ST category.
"Some of the opportunist political leaders have supported the demand of these communities and are mounting pressure on the Government. Tribal community is opposed to inclusion of Dhangar or other communities in ST category, as already many non-tribals or bogus tribals have taken advantage of the reservation meant for real tribals in ST category," they said. If more communities are included in ST category, it will affect the rights of trib at students, they added.
The major demands of tribals who had taken out the morcha included non-inclusion of Dhangar or other communities in ST category: scrapping of Government Resolution (GR )dated June 15. 1995 granting protection lo'bogus tribals'; caste scrutiny of employees working on posts reserved for tribals in Central Government and action against "bogus tribals'; correction in GR dated June 2. 2004. to filter out 'bogus' Mana tribe; effective implementation of GR dated May 18. 2013 and speedier disposal of legal cases; starting construction of ashramshala and hostels for tribal students and making Caste Validity Certificate mandatory at the time of admissions to educational institutions and interviews for jobs etc.
