Posing as policemen, two men dupe woman of Rs 1.50 lakh
AN ELDERLY woman was duped to the tune to Rs 1.50 lakh by men posing as policemen at Chunabhani area under the jurisdiction of Dhantoli police station on Wednesday morning. Two men in plain clothes, who identified themselves as policemen, asked the woman to wrap her ornaments in paper after frightening that criminals are on loose in the area. According to information, Rukmini Bangaluru Mudliar(75). a resident of Shakuntala Bhavan. near Shiv Mandir was sitting on concrete platform near her apartment at 8.05 am. Two men in plain clothes approached her and informed her that goons are robbing citizens with sharp edged weapons in the area. They asked her to wrap her ornaments worth Rs 1.50 lakh in paper and as she followed the diktat the accused snatched the paper under pretext of helping her. The accused wrapped stones in the paper and handed over the woman and fled from the spot on motorcycle. According to eye witness, the woman got shocked after seeing stones in the paper. She become agisted amt informed her relatives abom the incident. The family members informed police. Staff of Dhantoli police station along with Assislant Commissioner of Police (Ajni) Mohan Thakur arrived at the spot.
Dhantoli police have registered the case under sections 170.420 and 34 of Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are on.
Residents of the Chunnahhatti area are fed-up as there has been increase in street crime in the area. A resident of the area informed that bicycle thefts have increased of late and around five bicycles were stolen within last three months in same locality. Police are not registering FIR and simply maintain a missing register. The police yet to nab any accused.
The resident also alleged about irregular patrolling by Dhantoli police. Presence of patrolling team is rarely seen on the road, said the residents. The menace of trucks parked on both side of the roads also posing danger to local residents.
