'Spread awareness about ill-effects of tobacco'
A MEETING of Tobacco Control Committee was held at Collectorate on Thursday under (he chairmanship of District Collector Ranjeel Kumar,
Noted social worker Dr Abhay Bang, Sampada Mehia. CEO. Zilla Parishad. Sandeep Patil. SP. Dr. Pramod Khandate, Civil surgeon , Dr Kamlesh Bhandari. District Heallh Officer. Pushpalata Atram, Social Welfare Officer, and Bendkule. Assitant Commissioner Food and Drugs Depanmcni. were prominently present.
Addressing the meeting. Kumar called upon the officials to create maximum awareness among the people about the ill-effects of tobacco by putting banners, hoardings etc at public places, schools and colleges etc. An intensive campaign should be laken up with the involvement of Self HelpGroups. Anganwadi work-en. Police Patils. Gram Sevakas etc, he suggested. Pamphlets should be distributed to the people visiting the hospitals, he added.
Dr. Bang said that all the govt, departments should take a joint responsibility of tobacco free campaign in the district. An active participation of the society is very imporlain in this campaign, he added. The denial camps should be organised in rural areas and the youths be told about ill effects of tobacco consumption, Dr Bang suggested.
The percentage of tobacco consumption has increased to 60 in Aug. this year as compared to 2009. as per survey conducted by SEARCH in four talukas of the district, it was told in the meeting by power point presentation.
