Strike hits work at KECML mines
AS THE talks between Management of Karnataka EMTA Coal Mines Limited (KECML) and the workers unions failed in a meeting called by the Divisional Labour Commissioner. Nagpur. both the unions have gone on indefinite strike since Monday due to which the company has been suffering loss of crores rupees.
Eeports have it that since the old agreement between the company and the working unions INTUC and Rashtriya Koyala Kamgar Sangh is going to end on October 31, 2014. both unions coming together submitted a new proposal about the workers to the company. But no response was given the unions. Instead company closed canteen in the mines premises and transferred 25 heavy vehicle operators in other state and started harassing the workers. The unions and the company had discussion several limes but proved fruitless. When the teasion grew among both sides, they were called by Divisional Labour Commissioner. Nagpur for talks on September 3.10,12 this month and tried to settle the dispute but all negotiations tailed. Giving the ultimatum of three days to the company, the workers unions went on indefinite strike. Meanwhile, the company brought works from the other parts of the tehsil to continue coal mines but the strikers drove them away urging them peacefully. Nearly 400 workers work in this coal mines.
S Q Zama. 1NTUC leader, said that he would meet the District Collector in this regard while Pramod Mohod. a leader of Rashtriya Koyala Kamgar Sangh told that all the workers coming together would fight against the company for their reasonable demands peacefully. Through reliable sources, it has been gathered that there is a hanging sword over the company of whether it will survive or not as it has been mentioned as an illegal coal block allotted to it. All will be cleared after the Supreme Court's decision regarding this.
