Trickster sedates RBI staffer's family, steals valuables worth Rs 4 lakh
IN A sensational theft in Sadar Police Station area, a trickster stole gold ornaments and other valuables collectively worth Rs four lakh from the official residence of an employee of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) by offering sweets laced with sedatives to his wife, children and nephew on Sunday night.
According to Police. Dinesh Shahu (40). a resident of Quarter No. L-64. RBI Officers' Colony. Civil Lines, met one middleaged man named Deepak Shahu while travelling in a train. Deepak developed intimacy with Dinesh Shahu as both allegedly belong to die same community. A few days ago. Dinesh had gone to Badlapur for some official work. Around 8.15 pm. Deepak came 10 Dinesh Shahu's residence. Dinesh"s wife Nisha told him (hat her husband was out of station. After some time. Deepak told Nisha he would stay in a lodge, and left. After sometime, Deepak returned to Dinesh Shahu's house.
He told Nisha that he would stay overnight as there was no room available in the lodge. Deepak offered sweets mixed with sedatives to Nisha. her sons Prajwal and Shreyas and nephew Soyal saying that it was *Prasad.' Presuming it to be * prasad,' Nisha. her sons and nephew consumed it. Within minutes, they fell unconscious. Deepak then collected gold ornaments from an almirah. a laptop and other valuables and decamped with the booty in the small hours of Monday.
Around 7.30 am. when Nisha regained her consciousness, she was shocked lo find the gold ornaments and valuables stolen. As her children were in deep slumber, she realised that the person who had come to their house claimine lo be her husband's friend played some tricks and stole the ornaments.
Sadar Police arrived at Nisha"s house on being informed. Senior police officers also visited the spot. Sadar Police registered an offence under Sections 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison or any stupefying, intoxicating or unwholesome drug, or other thing with intent to commit an offence) and 380 (theft in a dwelling) against Deepak Shahu.
