INNER Wheel Club visited various anganwadis recently in wake of the National Nutrition Week and conducted haemoglobin testing camp for adolescent girls. One such camp was held in Sidur village.
Adolescent girls are at an increased risk of iron deficiency which is a major cause of many diseases. Inner Wheel Club of Chandrapur will be conducting haemoglobin camps for girls in schools so that the girls and their parenis come to know if a problem exists and can start treatment.
A display of nutritious diet was kept at the anganwadi. Many food items were made out of 'Take Home Ration' (THR). Anganwadi sevikas Chanda Kambie and Mahananda Modak told about nutritional value of die THR powder and demonstrated recipes that can be prepared from it.
AnjumQureshi. President of Inner Wheel Club, interacted with women lo know ahout (heir eating habits. She urged women to keep their surroundings clean, have safe drinking water and wash hands regularly as unhygienic conditions lead to illness which is major factor of weight reduction.
Jvoti Wakulkarof Marda Primarv Health Centre, conducted haemoglobin tests as well as determined BMI for nearly 50 girls.
Vaibhavi Ulmale. field coordinator. Sparsh and Navjyoti, UNICEF informed that girls are subjected to severe health problems during their adolescent and child bearing years due to anemia. Regular monitoring, iron rich foods and nutritional supplements can help to reverse the depleting haemoglobin levels. The girls detected with the lower levels of hemoglobin were referred to the primary health center and advised to consume the iron supplements provided to them.
