A farewell no less than grand for Ganesha

                                                                                     

WHEN the Lord of Wisdom arrived for his ten-day slay amid his devotees, the city came alive in His reverence. And when, on the occasion of 'Ananta Chaturdashi' on Monday. He embarked upon His return, the devotees left no stone unturned to give Lord Ganesha a grand farewell.

Over 200 Ganesha idols were immersed in RamalaTank and Irai river. The process of immersion began right from the morning and reached its zenith towards night. The grand processions were complete with beating of drums, children dressed up in fancy clothes, clouds of gulal and. of course, chanting in the praise of the Lord.

Members of different Ganesh Mandals reached Jalpura Gate along with their idols. By late afternoon a crowd of over one lakh people had gathered on main roads to watch the departure of Lord Ganesha. The regular vehicular traffic was hit on all main roads and the situation continued till late in the night. Tableaus based on Delhi rape case dominated the immersion procession with several mandate depicting the same issue. There were also tahleaus on pollution, environment, tree plantation etc. Every idol passing through Jaipura Gale was welcomed by me administrative authorities by showering flowers. Several social and traders' organisations had raised stalls all along the procession path from where water, snacks, juice etc were distributed. Political leaders greeted Ganesh Mandals at Gandhi Chowk and Girnar Chowk.

Meanwhile, police had maintained heavy security all over the city to avound any untoward incident during the immersion procession. Under the guidance of District Superintendent of Police Rajiv Jain, cops and over hundreds home guards were deployed to watch over the procession. Sub divisional police officers many police inspectors and sub inspectors maintained security with the help of deployed police force. Waich towers were erected at many places where policemen kept a close eye on the happenings. Fortunately, no untoward incident was reported. The immersions continued till late in the night but the enthusiasm among devotees remtaned undiluted.
