Election for posts of Amravati Mayor, Deputy Mayor today

ELECTION for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Amravati Municipal Corporation (AMC) will take place here on September 9.

The post of Mayor is reserved for women candidate in open category. The election process will start at 11 am and voting will take place after the withdrawal of nomination forms. Currently 8 candidates each for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor are in fray and contest will clear after the withdrawal of nomination forms. Suspense about who will become new Mayor was behind the curtain as both the groups of NCP Front were fighting with each other for the post.

The tenure of Mayor Vandana Kangale and Nandkishor Warhade, Deputy Mayor will end on September 9 and Amravati Corporation will get its new Mayor on the same day. The election process will start at 11 am and I hour time will be allotted for the withdrawal of nomination forms. After the withdrawal of nomination forms voting will lake place by raising hands.

The election will take place under the guidance of Kirankumar Gitte. District Collector. It may be mentioned that 8 candidates each have filed their nomination forms for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. In the 87 members of Amravati Municipal Corporation. Congress is the single largest party with 29 members including of ils 4 supporting members. NCP From has 23 members including of 6 supporting members. Shiv-Sena 11. BJP9. Janvikas Congress Party 9, BSP 6 members. In the dealing between Congress and NCP while forming post poll alliance for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor Congress party has made its Mayor in the first lerrn while NCP has its Deputy Mayor.

While as per deal NCP will get a chance of Mayor in this term. But as NCP isdivided into 2 groups since Parliamentary election both the groups of NCP front is making its claim over the Mayor's post which has created suspense over the next Mayor. It may be mentioned Avinash Mardikar led front has 13 members in its side while Sunil Kale led front has 7 members in its side. 3 members including of 2 of Muslim League and I of Samajwadi Party are yet to make a decision.

Avinash Mardikar Group has proposed the name of Rina Nanda for the Mayor's post while Sunil Kale led group proposed the name of Sapana Thakur. Jayashri Moraiyya from the Kale group will withdraw her name. State NCP has extended right to Sunil Kale to serve a whip to all the 17 corporators of the party. And it would he interesting to see how many Corporators will follow the whip as 10 corporators from the party who are loyal to Avinash Mardikar were seen to be intact till Monday. Meanwhile, it will all depend upon Congress party about with which group they will share the power.

Meanwhile, for the post of Deputy Mayor Sheikh Jafar of Congress seems to be front runner and magic figures of 44 is all seems to have been collected by Congress party.

Both the groups of NCP front have made the election prestige issue and has started the efforts to attract as much as Independent and small party Corporators towards each other to show Congress Party that they have enough members to emerge victorious with the alliance with Congress, leaders of both the groups have started closed door meeting with the corporators.
