NATIONAL President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Amit Shall is touring Vidarbha region on September 19 and will address two meetings at Amravati and Gondia. This is first high-profile political visit after announcement of Assembly elections. Other parlies have also planned visits of their top leaders, bin most of them will visit Vidarbha after nominalions are filed and during campaign period. BJP President recently held a meeting with Stale leadership at Mumbai and also met Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray.
Shah along with State BJP President Devendra Fadnavis and newly elected MPs will address the meeting at Dnyancshwar Hall at Amravati at 10.30 am on September 19 followed by a public meeting at Indira Gandhi stadium at Gondia at 1.30 pm. Shall will assess the situation in Amravati and Nagpur divisions along with BJP workers and will address two meetings even before the date of nomination. In the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, Shiv Sena and BJP had contested 169 and 119 seats respectively in the 2(X)9 Assembly elections. In die Lok Sabha polls. BJP won 23 seats out of total 48 seats in Maharashtra while Sena bagged 18 seats.Enthused by this performance the State BJP leadership apparently wants more seats and there is great demand from smaller coalition partners like RPI (A). opportunity from their respective party. However, the lop leaders are hopeful that seat-sharing pacts will be inked in next couple of days and confusion will be sorted out.
Even for Congress, the stale election panel had recommended single names for more than 110 seats including many seats of Nagpur. However. Congress leaders who are keen to fight, pointed out that party high-command never goes by such recommendations. Even otherwise the AICC President Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi are out of India during next week and hence there is very little chance of Congress finalising its list. Though Industries Minister Naravan Raneand MPCC Chief Manikrao Thakre promised the first list by September 17.
