Panchmatiya objects to powers given for LBT raid

FEDERATION of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM). Mumhai recently organised important meeting at Mumbai to take certain decisions regarding against LBT Octroi. Mayur Panchmatiya. newly-elected President of NVCC attended the meeting. Mohan Gurnani, President of FAM welcomed him.
While addressing the representatives of trade and industries of 25 municipal corporations of Maharashtra who were present, Gurnani said that in the wake of shocking and thoughtless decision taken by the Chief Minister that instead of removal of Octroi and LBT. the municipal corporations may decide to continue with either Octroi or LBT as per their own choice. Every one present in the meeting expressed shock and felt betrayed. This once again proves the indecisive nature of die Government. "The irade and industries in Maharashtra are fighting against Octroi since last 30 years for abolishing Octroi which has been termed as the most regressive tax by the entire world. In the year 2005 while implementing VAT Government had assured the citizens of Maharashtra that it will remove Octroi if VAT collections surpassed (he then existing Sales Tax collection which was Rs 15.000 crore. But instead of removing Octroi. State Government replaced it with LBT in phased manner since past 3 years except in Munibai/hesaid. For which entire Maharashtra including Mumbai is agitating to remove LBT and Octroi from Maharashtra and submerged the tax into VAT. "The VAT collection of Maharashtra has increased from Rs 15.000 crore in 2005 to 72.000 crore in 2013 - 14. but still the Government's greed is not satisfied." Gurnani pointed out.
"The general public including trade and industries are confused by (his illogical and impractical decision of government. How can there be two different laws in one State prevailing for the same purpose," he argued.
During last Lok Sabha election, the State Government failed to estimate the voting strength of trading community in Maharashtra and suffered a humiliating defeat. "We once again warn the political parties not to under estimate the united strength of business community of Maharashtra." Gurnani cautioned.
"If the State Government fails to remove LBT and Octroi before the Code of Conduct is imposed in Maharashtra, the trade and industry of Maharashtra will execute their voting right unitedly and will vote for the only political party/parties which gives us in writing that no sooner they come to power, they will immediately, within two months of formation of new Cabinet will abolish Octroi and LBT without replacing it with another tax." he said. "The citizens of Maharashtra deserve a fair deal from the Government and. hence it was to support only those political parties in the coming Assembly elections who assure us these things in writing." he said
Mayur Panematiya. strongly objected to the powers given to Municipal Commissioner regarding raids and further increase in rates of LBT. The strong feelings of all the representatives in the meeting were for indefinite bandh and it was urged to at least observe one-day token 'Maharashtra Bandh.' However. Mohan Gurnani along with his core team felt thai due to on-going festival season, and coming Ganeshotsav, any bandh would cause great inconvenience to the general public of Maharashtra and hence it was unanimously decided not to declare any Bandh and to continue with on-going non-cooperation movement only, informs a press release issued here.

HEAVY import of edible oils from Brazil. Argentina. Indonesia and Malaysia has resulted in the prices nosediving to a three-year low in the wholesale market. Also, there is ample stock of edible oils lying at the pons. Furthermore, there is not much demand in the local markets after Ramzan festival. "Edible oil prices have hit a three-year low due to arrival of huge quantity of imports," said Rajesh Thakkar. Secretary of Oil Merchants Association. Nagpur in a talk with The Hitavada on Monday.
According to Thakkar. some importers had deferred their purchases or refused to take delivery due to which large quantity of edible oil stock was lying at ports. This stock was eventually sold to others at discounted prices. India is the third largest importer of edible oils in the world. Moreover, imports meet 60 per cent requirement of the nation's consumption. Thakkar said: "Within a few days the prices of edible oils have fallen the steepest compared to one month ago." He highlighted that wholesale prices of edible oils compared to one month ago are as follows: Soyabeen Rs 1.070 for 15 kg (Rs 1.170). palm oil Rs 930 to Rs 935 for 15 kg (Rs 1.000). "Most consumers arc price-conscious and soyabean offers good quality and taste at affordable prices. " he pointed out. Sharad Bhangdia. oil merchant and owner of Madhav Traders said that the prices of edible oils had fallen due to huge imports flooding the Indian markets. "Bumper crop in major soyabeen-producing countries like Argentina. Brazil. Ukraine. Malaysia and Indonesia coupled with less internal demand has worsened the situation pushing the prices lower." he said. Such prices were witnessed in 2008-09. Prashant Duchakke. Executive Director of Rasova Proteins said that bumper production of soyabeen crop and limited demand had brought down prices of edible oils in the country. "It is believed that the prices have bottomed out and may not go down any further until the new crop arrives in the market during November." he added.

Vidarbha requires Rs 6,446 crore to remove backlog of agriculture pumps

Vidarbha requires Rs 6,446 crore to remove backlog of agriculture pumps

HERE is one more instance of how Maharashtra Government has been neglecting Vidarbha. While Pune and Nashik divisions, and Marathwada have excess agricultural pumps as against Slate average, rainfed region of Vidarbha has a massive backlog that has reached 61.37 per cent. State Government will require Rs 6.446 crore to remove this backlog of Vidarbha.
Adv Madhukarrao Kimmaikar. Expert Member of Vidarbha Statutory Development Board (VSDB), told mediapersons on Saturday that Dandekar Committee and Indicators and Backlog Committee had calculated backlog of agriculture pumps in the Slate as per ttonisand hectares of cropped area. Recently. MSEDCL informed VSDB about disirict-wise position of pumps energised on March 2014. As per the report. Konkan Division has a backlog of 1,08.494 pumps. Nashik has 2.71.772 excess pumps. Pune Division has 3,36,254 excess pumps. Maraihwada has 87.562 excess pumps. However, Nagpur Division has a backlog of 1.63,255 pumps, and Amravaii Division has backlog of 2.63.638 agriculture pumps.
MSEDCL has to spend Rs 1.51 lakh to energise an agricultural pump. The financial backlog of Amravati Division is Rs 3.980 crore and that of Nagpur Division is Rs 2.465 crore. As per the report, the consumption of energy per hectare in Nashik and Pune divisions is the highest whereas it is much less in Amravati. Nagpur. and Konkan divisions. State Government is supplying electricity to these pumps at subsidised rates. As per the report. Nashik Division is getting subsidy of Rs 989 crore, Pune Division- Rs 1.083 crore, Aurangabad Division-
-  Rs 803 crore. Konkan Division Rs 24.69crore. Amravati Division-
- Rs 326 crore. and Nagpur Division  Rs 141.79 crore.
In spile of excess agriculture pumps in Puneand Nashikdivisions, ihe State Government has set more target for energisation of pumps in these divisions and the target is less in the districts with more backlog. The farmers of Vidartiha have applied for energisation of their pumps hut MSEDCL could not decide their applications for years, Kimmatkar alleged. He rejected MSEDCL officers' statement that there was no response from farmers of the region to get electricity connections. The company is not interested in removing this backlog. On the contrary. the company is increasing backlog at greater speed. The backlog of agriculture pumps as in 1996. as calculated by Indicator and Backlog Committee, is still not removed in the districts of Konkan and Vidarbha even after 18 years. Compared to Nashik and Pune divisions, irrigation facilities are lesser in Vidarbha
