Workshop on critical theories in English literature organised

                                                    

A WORKSHOP on 'Critical Theories and their application to literary text and World Literature' was held at Adarsh A ns and Commerce College, here recently. The workshop was organised by Language and Literature students' Study Council.
Prof Dr H B Dhole chaired the workshop under the guidance of Principal Dr P H Balbudhe. Prof Y N Meshramand Prof Milind Pathade. both from Department of English N H College. Bhrahmapuri. were the resource persons while Prof Dr S K Singh. ProfDrSG GahaneandProf R M Dhote were prominently present on the dais.
Prof Pathade addressed the literary gathering on emergence of critical theories and their application to literary texts. He said that the reading of literary text has become difficult in the context of these theories. In the past, the text was interpreted in the light of biological and biographical context of the writer. However, the interpretation ot text has gone a paradigm shift after the emergence of critical theories. He explained T S Eliot's "The Waste Land' in the light of mythical, feminist and structuralism.
Prof Dr Y N Meshram oriented the students on "World Literature'. He said that language is not barrier in writing. He encouraged the students to record their feelings and thoughts that arise spontaneously in their own language.
Prof Dr Dhote highlighted the importance of English language in today'sworld. He said that local languages can not help man beyond certain boundaries. With the wings of English only one can fly high and conquer today's world.
Principal Balbudhe said that computer literacy and good command over English are the powerful keys to open the lock of opportunities. He appealed the students to work hard to command English language.
Prof Or S K Singh introduced the guests and acquainted the gathering with the aims and objectives behind the organisation of the programmes. Punam Ghutke conducted the programme while Gaurishankar Dixit proposed a vote of Uianks.
