NCGRF Circuit Bench sitting in Nagpur from Sept 15
NATIONAL Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum's(NCGRF)Circuit Bench will conduct hearing in city from September 15 to 26 at Ravi Bhavan. About 144 cases from all over Maharashtra would be listed before the bench.
For litigants of Slate, die sitting of Circuit Bench of NCGRF in Nagpur is going to be of immense benefit as otherwise they would have to travel all the way to New Delhi for the hearing.
The NCGRF's Circuit Bench holds its sitting at important places all over die country for convenience of litigants and lawyers. Earlier one such sitting was held in Pune in Maharashtra and now this time it is being held in Nagpur.
Justice Ravindra Chavan, President of Maharashtra Slate Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum and Nagpur Circuit Bench chief B A Sheikh are overseeing all the arrangements for the national circuit bench.
Central Government promulgated Consumer Protection Act in 1986 and Rules thereafter to ensure that consumers arc not cheated and get right service againsi their payments. Each district has a Consumer Protection Forum or in big cities there are two benches to adjudicate the consumer matters.
Cases of value of up to Rs. 20 lakhs can be listed before the Consumer Forums and presiding officers of District Consumer Forum is either serving Judge or retired District Judge or a senior counsel who has been dealing consumer matters is listed as its chairpersons or as Member.
For appellate cases at State level Consumer Forum is set-up and it is headed by in service or retired Judge of High Court.
The Forum takes help of experts from various fields who are named as Members to help deal with consumer cases. In Maharashtra. Circuit Bench of State Consumer Forum functions at Mumbai. where there are three bench, two each at Aurangabad and Nagpur.
At Nagpur the Members of Circuit Bench are Jayshree Yengal. Shrikant Sawarkar. Retd. Additional Director General of Police.The state-level Consumer Forum can consider appeals of cases having monetary value upto Rs 20 lakh and it can impose fine up to Rs 10 lakh.
