Malaria, not Dengue, causing more fatalities in Nagpur divn

Last year the outbreaks of Dengue were 27 and this year the outbreaks recorded between January and August are 36. There were 17 deaths due to Dengue in Nagpur division in the year 2012. It increased to 35 in 2013. This year, so far six deaths have been reported in the division. However, cases of Malaria have increased this year. In 2011. there were 15 deaths registered due to Malaria, in 2012. 22 people died due to Malaria. The number was reduced to 15 in 2013. This year the number of deaths due to Malaria have risen to 17. Dr Satish Jaiswal. Deputy Director of Health Services, told The Hitavada that Health Department is taking utmost care to curh the menace. "However. I do feel that that people should also take care. Simplest way to do this would be not to allow water to gel stagnant. Water should not be stored for long especially in coolers, lyres or in any utensils." Dr Jaiswal said. Taking a leaf out of Bhandara's book. Nagpur loo tried lo spread awareness about dengue. Health Department officials visited all Government schools and imparted training regarding health to students. Students were informed about dengue. Participation of NCC and NSS was increased and for that volunteers were given training.
