Goal India disappointing female workers on VRS
WITH the efforts of all operating five central trade unions (CTUs), especially Indian National Mineworkers Federation (INTUC), the Coal India finally circulated Special Female Voluntary Retirement Scheme (SFVRS) on March 4,2014 for a period of six months. The main objective of Coal India Limited was to reduce excess female manpower with young dependant with less wages. The earlier SFVRS scheme was in force from August 2. 2002 to December 31. 2003. In compare to earlier scheme, the new scheme is quite disappointing in which the age for submitting SFVRS is reduced from 55 years to 50 years.
Moreover, the earlier scheme allows their dependant boys to get employment in the same subsidiary company whereas in the new scheme all these dependant boys will be given employment in CMPDIL. Ranchi.
The third disappointing matter is that the earlier scheme educa tion qualificatton was no bar but in the newly circulated scheme Coal India is asking minimum matriculation/ITI. Under this circumstances number of female coal workers who desires to replace them with their sons in the employment are not entitled.
It is worth mentioning that there is no recruitment directly or through employment exchange for female workers because female are not entitled to go below ground. At present, around 30,000 to 35.000 female workers arc in the role of Coal India Limited by getting employment on compassionate ground in place of their husband who were in coal company and loss their life during their service. The another way to provide employment to female is on the basis of land acquisition where no male owner is available. With the efforts of Indian National Mineworkers Federation (INTUC). the age limit for submitting application in the first scheme was enhanced from 50 to 55 years. During the last meeting of Coal India Limited with five operating CTUs. the management principally agreed to enhance the age limit and also for relaxation in qualification. But. till dale the proposal has not been approved by Coal India Board and circulated in all the sub-sidiariesofCoal India Limited including WCL. The disappointed female coal workers are approaching their respective unions for justice, since the allotted six months lime isalmost finished. On August 31. 2014. during All India Coal Workers Convention in Nagpur. the matter was taken seriously by five CTUs alongwith other demands. In the convention the agitational notice Was served to Secretary Coal under signature of five CTUs leaders in which all coal industries in India will observe 'Work to Rule' from September 18 to September 20. 2014.
The agitation may convert into total strike if the demands are not given proper direction, informs a press release by Pradeep Kokas, Public Relation Officer of Rashtriya Kovla Khadan Mazdoor Sangh (INTUC).
