THE Chancellor's office on Wednesday justified appointment of Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar as officiating ViceChancellor of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) for a period of six months, after regular V-C Dr Vilas Sapkal tendered his resignation in March 2014,

In an affidavit filed bv S M Salunke. Deputy Secretary of Higher and Technical Education Department, the government has claimed that Chancellor has right to appoint a suitable person as officiating Vice-Chancellor under Section 12(7)(b) of the Maharashtra University (MU) Act.

Last week, the High Court had directed the Chancellor to file its reply within a week justifying appointment of officiating Vice-Chancellor or else ii would proceed further in regard to gram of interim relief demanded by petitioner-senate member Gurudas Kamdi seeking appointment of an eligible, academically qualified full-time Vice-Chancellor as contemplated under Section 12(1) of the MU Act.
