Fresh snowfall in Gulmarg, upper reaches of Kashmir
THE world lamous ski resort of Gulmargand other heights in the Kashmir valley received fresh light to moderate snowfall, while people continued to shiver in plains, including summer capital, Srinagar. A Met department spokesperson said on Wednesday that there could be light to moderate rain or snowfall in the Kashmirvalley during the next 24 hours.
Gulmarg, a famed ski resort, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, received fresh but light snowfall during die night, a hotel owner told UNI over phone.
However, upper reaches, including Kongdori, Khilanmarg and Affarwal, the highest skiing point connected by Gandola Cable Car (GCC), received moderate to heavy snowfall during the past 2-t hours, resulting in drop in the temperature.The spokesperson said the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 1.5 degree Celsius, more than two notches below normal.
At upper heights in north Kashmir, including near tiie Line of Control (LoC), fresh snowfall was recorded. Kupwara recorded 12.7 mm rainfall, he said, adding that the minimum temperature was 6 degrees, three notches above normal.
Due to cloudy sky, the minimum temperature witnessed considerable jump at famed health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir. It was 4.6 degrees above normal, he said, adding mat 0.6 mm rainfall was recorded.
However, the holy Amarnath cave shrine, Shcshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso top and Panjtarni on traditional Pahalgam yatra route also recorded light to moderate snowfall.
