'Eyes get badly affected due to diabetes'


ALL India Ophthalmic Society (AIOS), Association of Medical Faculties (AM P), Diabetic Association of India (DAI), Rotary Club of Nagpur North and Akshar Eye Institute had organised Diabetic eye screening camp (DESC) to nileoul Diabetic Retinopathy (ill-effect of diabeteson eye) atAkshar Eve Institute, AIOS is conductingsuch camps across India to create awareness about Diabetic Retinopathy from November 14 to 18. This is a unique project taken up by AIOS for the first lime. Patients in this camp underwent blood sugar test, blood pressure check-up, peripheral neuropathy test, vision examination, fundus examination, intraocular pressurelest and further special lest like OCT which scan     different     layers     of Retina and helps in diagnosing and deciding further course of treatment whether it be lasers or intravitreal Injections.MIA l)r Milind Mane was the chiefguest He applauded efforts taken by Dr Gopal Arora for creating awareness about diabetes. Dr Arora invited one patient, a young lady who had a blood sugar of 514 mg% and was totally unaware of it. Total 78 patients were examined out of which 32  patients had uncontrolled diabetes, 10 patients had hypertension, 8 patients with diabeticneu-ropathy. Surprisingly, diabetic retinopathy was seen in I". patients ranging from grade I to 4 and were advised further investigations. Navjeevan Multispccia-Hty hospital helped in this camp. Dr Ciopal Arora, Dr Debashish Naha, Dr Sonali Khanna and Dr PiyushPotdarparticipatedindiis camp.
