Windscreen of IndiGo plane to carry Aviation Minister cracks before take-off

                                                             

A DELHI-BOUND IndiGo aircraft, scheduled to By Union Civil Aviation Minister A s h o k G a j a p a t h i Raju and other passengers, developed a windscreen crack minutes before its take-off from Nagpur airport on Tuesday evening. Kaju, who visited MIHAN project in Nagpur earlier in the dav. was waiting to board IndiGo flight 6E-202 scheduled for departure at 8.15 pm when the crack in the windshield was noticed. Nagpur airport officials confirmed the development, saying that the Minister had not hoarded the plane, hut was just waiting to board. When ihe aircraft landed al Nagpur airport, its windshield was found cracked, an airport official said. The official added lhat the airline had made an alternative aircraft available. As per the other reports reaching here, IndiGo issued a statement on Tuesday night in Mumbai.lt stated, "IndiGo flight 6H-202 from Nagpur to Delhi, scheduled to depart from Nagpur at 8:15 PM, wasground-ed at Nagpur as the incoming aircraft which operated on Pune-Nagpur sector had both windshields cracked. To avoid further delay, 6E-692 from Vizag  to Delhi was diverted through Nagpur and the flight departed from Nagpurat 8:57 PM. In all,

102 transit passengers at Nagpur and 57 passengers from Vizag were scheduled lu arrive in Delhi at 10 PM, it added.

The IndiGo statement further said that Airbus  aircraft windshields had multiple layers. On 6E-202, only outer layer had cracked due to enroute weather. While the aircraft was perfectly safe to continue to destination, further operations of aircraft were not permitted as per the requirements. "Safety of all the passengers and crew is of utmost importance to IndiGo and there is absolute commitment and no compromise on the same," the statement added.
