HC treats reports on growing backlog of Vidarbha as PIL
TAKING suo motu cognisnace of the newspaper reports pertaining to ever growing backlog of Vidarbha region and raw deal meted to it from decades, Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court treated them as public interest litigation (I'll.) and appointed Senior Counsel C S Kaplan as Amicus Curiae to assist the Court. The amicus curiae is expected to present the petition in proper format highlighting the vexed issue of backwardness of Vidarbha, legal and constitutional arrangements and how they have been followed only in breach creating resentment among people. A division bench consistingjustice BhushanGavai and JusliceVMDeshpande asked Senior Counsel Kaplan to present a proper petition in two weeks.
This judicial cognisance about burning problems of Vidarbha is very important, as the last government tried to change the nature of backlog discourse by appointing Dr Vijav Kelkar
