Students' fate in doldrums as Social Welfare Deptt yet to complete admissions in hostels
THE hundreds of backward class students in the district are on verge of losing their education this year as the process of admission in hostels of Social Welfare Department has not been completed as yet. The students who had applied for the hostels have been anxiously wailing for the admission but even after two months of the opening of the current academic session, they have not got admission in the hostels because the admission process has been pending at the official level till now.
There are six hostels in the district belonging to the Social Welfare Department and out of this as many as 120 seats are still vacant due to delay in the admission process, told the sources in the district Social Welfare office. The process of admission is being done by the Pune office from this year. We can admit the Students in our hostels only after we receive the list of the selected students, told the official. As soon as we get the list we will give admission to the students, he added.
Meanwhile, the students who have applied for the hostels have been staying back at their native places itself in lack of residential arrangements. As such they are not able to attend their colleges and are losing their education, complained the parents of the students demanding early publication of the selection list.
A delegation of the Bliarip Bahujun Mahasangh called on (he District Collector Ranjeet Kumar in this regard on Wednesday and submitted him a memorandum demanding early completion of the admission process. The delegation also met the Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare Department T D Barge and discussed the matter with him.
