AKOLA Municipal Corporation officials on Thursday demolished the compound wall of old ST stand at Tower Square to widen the road.

Commuting its drive to remove encroachments, the AMC authorities cleaned the Tower to Fateh Square road. Compound wall of the old stand popularly known as Washim stand was also demolished in the drive. The over 500 metres long wall was demolished to widen the road.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation office here took objection.

An officer informed that the land was given on lease. In 2005. the MSRTC had moved to the court with a plea to extend the lease.

The matter is still pending with the court. The authorities also demolished the police station at Rail way Stat ion square. The police station was abandoned since a couple of years after the new one was built.
