Washim admn gear up for Assembly polls
COLLECTOR and District Election Officer Ramchandra Kulkarni informed that the prepoll arrangements have been made in the three Assembly segments of Washim district. The returning officers and AROs of the respective Assembly segments are looking after the arrangements on the directives issued by the Election Commission of Ind ia.
The District Administration is also seeking the cooperation of the NGOs and members of the business community for increasing the percentage of voting in the Assembly elections scheduled to be held on October 15. The District Administration and Flection Machinery have also completed pre-poll arrangements in all the three constituencies viz.
Washim. Risod and Karanja and efforts are being made to increase the percentage of voting.
The school and college going students and Anganwadi sevikas from the rural pans are being asked to create awareness amongst the voters to cast their voles.
Voters' lists will also be issued to the voters indicating the names of polling booths etc. Posters will be displayed at the petrol pumps and hotels asking the people to cast their votes.
The petrol pump and hotel owners are being asked to spare the workers so that they could cast their votes on the day of voting. TRADERS CO-OPERATE:A MEETING was held in the Collectorate under chairmanship of Election Observer Senihil Rajan. Collector and District Election Officer Ramchandra Kulkarni. Deputy Election Officer B K Ingale and others were present.
Kulkarni urged the members of Vyapari Mandal 10 keep their business establishments closed on October 15 up to 11 am so that the workers could cast their votes on dieelection day. The members of Vyapari Mandal responded positively to the suggestion.
District Administration is taking all efforts to increase the percentage of voting in the Assembly segments of Washim district.
The 'Rath', designed for the purpose of creating awareness amongst the voters, will also visit different places in the urban and rural parts of the district. Scnthil Rajan and Collector Kulkarni thanked members of the business community for their cooperation.
Kulkarni further said that the voters from the urban parts are rather indifferent in casting their votes and this trend must change, he said. On the other hand, the voters from the rural parts show more interest in casting votes, he said.
The percentage of voting in the urhan parts is comparatively low in spite of good literacy rate, said Superintendent of Police Ramnath Pokale. Resident District Collector Rajcndra Deshmukh. The candidates who filed their nominations included from the Shiv Sena. Congress. Rashtriya Samata party and Bharip-Bahujan Mahasangh etc. From Washim (Reserved) constituency. two filed their nominations on Thursday. As many as eight candidates filed their nominations from the Karanja constituency on Thursday.
