Traders will support parties abolishing LBT, Octroi: FAM
MAYUR Panchmatia. President NVCC and Dipen Agrawal. Immediate Past President attended a meeting of all the 26 municipal corporations where LBT or Octroi is levied which was called by
Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM) in Nashik. Trade leaders from all the corporations deliberated on the action to be taken for agitation against LBT and Octroi. Mohan Gurnani. President of FAM had once again written to all political parties to make their stand clear on LBT/Octroi and that the trading community would vote only to those political parties which would oppose LBT/Octroi. and promise to abolish them as soon as they come to power.
Mayur Panchmaiia briefed the delegation on the problems and harassment being faced by traders at Nagpur due to frequent raids beingconducied by LBT Department.
Dipen Agrawal expressed that inspite of various promises by non other than Prithviraj Chavan. Chief Minister to resolve the issue of LBT nothing on ground has been delivered and traders were taken on a ride by false promises and recently though the CM announced that corporations have been given powers to decide between LBT or Octroi as Cabinet decision hut he dishonoured his own announcement by not issuing the notification of the same. He added that it was high time FAM took a strong resolve to teach a lesson to such political parties which work against the interest of traders and trade of the State in the forthcoming Assembly elections of the State.
During the ongoing meeting an audio conference was held with Dcvendra Fadanavis. President of Maharashtra BJP who assured the delegates that BJP-Shiv Sena is committed to abolish LBT and Octroi once they come to power. Similarly. Rajesh Kshirsagar ShivSena MLA fromKolhapur also assured the same on behalf of Shiv Sena via audio conferencing while addressing the meeting.
It was unanimously resolved that the trading community of the State would only vote in the forthcoming Assembly elections for the parlies which promise 10 abolish LBT and Octroi immediately after coming to power. It was further resolved that 'Shapath Sabhas' to this effect would be organised in each corporation. FAM has appealed to traders to attend and participate in these 'Shapath Sabhas' in large numbers to display unity and seriousness in the matter. It was also decided to form two state-level committees i.e. action plan committees and co-ordination committee for taking forward the agitation against LBT in a smooth manner with better co-ordination and planned implementation, informs a press release by Manubhai Soni.
