MAHARASHTRA Veej Grahak Sanghatana has called for refund Of extra surcharges collected from power consumers in Slate citing the Electricity Appellate Tribunal order in Tata Motors vs MERC case. Pratap Hogade, energy expert and Janata Dal leader, said the Central Tribunal has termed the imposition of additional electricity charge and fuel adjustment as it legal and quashed the order of MERC.
In light of the above judgement, Hogade demanded that Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL) should refund Rs 4.450 crore to consumers that was collected at the rate of Rs 890 crores/month from September 2013 to January 2014. Also the subsidy that was collected al rate of Rs. 706 crorc/month should also be returned.
Electricity Appellate Tribunal has questioned the MERC order when there was no petition from MSED CL asking for imposition of sur charges. Also the suomom imposition of surcharges without public-hearing also came in for criticism and further MSEDCL was given the task of computing AEC and FAC which was against principles of natural justice.
Hogade said the Electricity Appellate Tribunal. New Delhi, order confirms the allegations consumer representatives have been making that MERC is biased against consumers and is protecting Government companies. He further demanded that MSEDCL should rollback power rales iopre-September5. 2013. level and only after fulfilling all legal formalities the hike in power rates be effected.
