WILDLIFE officers discussed corridor management strategy and decided to work out a plan for restoration of the other wsie fragmented corridors in the interest of tigers and other wild animals to promote genetic diversity.
Sarjan Bhagai. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), presided over a meeting held in his chamber at Van Bhavan. Civil Lines, on Thursday. Field Directors from tiger reserves in Vidarhha. wildlife wing officials and representatives of Non-Governmental Organisations participated in the discussion. Officers from territorial division also took part in the meeting.
The officials exchanged views with the NGO representatives having experience in corridor development and asked them to utilise their ideas in the field and recommend on the approach to be adopted for creating contiguous
corridors. This will help in avoiding interbreeding amongst animals, especially big cats, and thereby producing healthy progeny of theendangered species. At present, inter breeding is a cause for concern.
Reliable sources informed that the Wildlife Institute of India. Dehradun. mentioned in its report in 2010 about linkagesof corridors between Pcnch. Kanha. Indravati, Navegaon. Nagzira. Tadoba-Andhari. Melghat through wildlife sanctuaries.
The institute is now interested to know about status of the linkages in these corridors. Moreover. National Tiger Conservation Authority has
