Non-functioning colleges in Ghandrapur district mint scholarship worth crores
AS THE new academic session begins. a shocking fad has come lo fore that some colleges in the district that exist only on papers had withdrawn a hefty amount of scholarship in the name of bogus students who never appeared for any examinations in the district.
The probe in connection with irregularities and misappropriation of distribution of scholarship is being carried out following a tip-off given by a high profile employee of State Government. The directors and other officials of educational societies reportedly in connivance with officials of Social Welfare (SW) office had withdrawn over Rs 3 crore in the name of scholarship. Interestingly, the colleges which had withdrawn the scholarships in the name of bogus students who even did not appear for any examination. Following the tip-off, the Commissioner of SW. Pune. constituted a committee and sent to Chandrapur to investigate the colleges functioning and its affiliation to Universities in the State. The committee recently visited the district but failed to locate such colleges which had already withdrawn the scholarships in the name of bogus students.
