64% deficient rainfall in Nagpur Division
rHOUGH the Monsoon is likely to let revived in next few days, the siteation remains grim for the farmers especially in six districts of nagpur Division owing to 64 percent deficient rainfall. This means, nagpur Division received only 36 percent rainfall in the month of June. The worst-hit district is Zliandrapur. which is 69 percent deficient in rainfall. It is followed y Bhandara. which is 67 per cent deficient Ward ha and Gadchiroli (66) percent deficient each). Nagpur (59 )er cent deficient), and Gondia (55) percent deficient). These are official figures compiled by Divisional "commissionerate. As against the tverage rainfall of 205.17 mm between June I and July I. the six
districts of Nagpur Division received only 74.19 mm rainfall.
Of a total 64 tehsils spread over these six districts. Rajura in Chandrapur district is the worst-affected as it has received only 2.70 mm rainfall during the said period, and is 99 per cent deficient in rainfall. It is closely followed by Samudrapur tehsil in Wardha district, which is 92 per cent deficient. Only 11 tehsils have received more than 50 per cent rainfall. This means, as many as 53 tehsils in the Division arc more than 50 per cent deficient in rainfall, compared to the average.
In Nagpur district, only three tehsils have received more than 50 percent rainfall. These are Kamptee (51 per cent rainfall). Mouda (79 per cent), and Kuhi (81 per cent). Nagpur (City). Hingna. Katol. Kalmeshwar. and Bhiwapur have received less than 30 per cent rainfall. As against the average of 216.40 mm. Nagpur city has received only 56.90 mm rainfall.
The deficient rainfall and delayed Monsoon has affected farmers the most. As far as State is concerned, sowing has been done only in 6 per cent of total Kharif area of 134.70 lakh hectares. As far as Nagpur Division is concerned, as against total Kharif area of 18.36.671 hectares.
