New Delhi: and Chief Electoral Officer. Maharashtra, with an appeal to consider the proposal so that citizens deprived of their fundamental right to vote got an opportunity and the Government also had a chance to rectify the anomaly According to Sharma, a considerable number of genuine voters were deprived of their fundamental right to vote due to various reasons. Some citizens did not verify their names in electoral rolls when opportunity was made available. However, the main fault lay with the election machinery that failed at some places and deleted names without actually verifying the same or sending a simple letter before deleting such names. VTA Secretary Tejinder Singh Renu sought polling opportunity to be provided to the deprived voters before May 16, the date of counting of votes. However, during conversation over mobile phone. District Election Officer Abhishek Krishna informed Renu that there was no provision for providing such an opportunity. Abhishek Krishna requested VTA and other associations to provide names of voters whose names were missing from electoral rolls, so that appropriate corrections could be carried out immediately. VTA delegation comprised Joint Secretary Hemant Trivedi, executive members Amarjeet Singh Chawla and Rajesh Kanoongo. Meanwhile, a social worker Ashfaque Rehman also expressed displeasure over the names of voters missing from electoral rolls. He cited various instances in which names of only some members of a family were found in electoral rolls and oth ers' names were missing despite them being old voters. At many places, he alleged, some members of a family had to vote in Satranjipura Ward and others at Dahi Bazar.
