Summer scorch brings down water storage to 43.5 pc in Amravati divn
The summer scorch in on and it is having idling effects on the waicr storage in various reservoirs in the division. Presently, only 43.50 percent of the water storage is available in all the 379 small, medium and big projects even as the region is not even half way through the summer season.
The unseasonal rains in March have helped in maintaining water level in the projects to some extent.
It may be mentioned here that Aniravati division has total 379 big. medium and small dams with a total water storage capacity of 2911.21 cubic meter. A decrease of 13 percent in water level has been recorded in last one-and-a-half months. Total of 1637.41 cubic meter water is available in the division which is 56.23 percent of total capacity. But till April 12 only 1266.44'cubic meter water was available which is only 43.50 percent of total capacity. This indicates that the water level has been decreasing rapidly due to evaporation. The level will only plunge further as the summer heat rises. Though the storage seems adequate as of now to sail through the summer season, proper planning will also he needed 10 ensure that scarcity is kepi at bay.
