NMC locks horns with NIT over Metro Rail

NAGPUR Municipal Corporation (NMC) has opposed transfer of development rights, (TOD) lo Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) on the proposed route of Metro Rail. The SMC has also opposed deployment of separate buses to feeder system of Metro Rail NIT has proposed to give development rights up to 500 mts from Metro Railway Station on premium. The NIT can collect huge amount to make Metro Rail project financially viable Sources claimed that NIT can generate around Rs 10000 crore from it Sources claimed that  in a meeting called by NIT. the NMC strongly opposed the ToD to NIT. The NMC official stated that this would reduce the importance of NMC in the city The civic body is the planning authority and this move will make it subservient to an unelected body. Meanwhile. Ruling party leader Pravin Datke said. NIT should use NMCs bus system for feeder system of Metro Rail. NIT has proposed to purchase 200 buses for feeder system of Metro Rail service in the city The civic body has appointed Vansh Nimay Infra Limited (VNIL) for operation of bus service in ihc city. He said, only one operator can operate bus service in the city, therefore, it is not possible for NIT to appoint other bus operator. It may be mentioned that N IT has prepared a Metro Rail Plan with the help of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

state Government has given in principal approval to Metro Rail while Central Government has also assured for financial assistance of the project. The NIT is preparing detailed project report (DPR) for the Metro rail. The preparation of DPR is underway and NIT is collecting data for future requirement of cycle rickshaws, buses, autorickshaw and others.
