Only two women to contest from Washim district

OUT OF the total 896725 number of voters registered in Washim district . the male and female voters respectively are 470240 and 426485.

Amongst the 426485 women voters registered in the district in all the three Assembly segments, only three women candidates had filed their nominations for the Assembly elections. After withdrawal of nominations on Oct 1, one woman candidate withdrew her nomination and while the other two Dr. Alka Makasare and Jyoti Ganeshpure are now left in the fray from the Washim (Reserved) and Karanja constituencies.

Only the Congress party has fielded Jyoti Ganeshpure from the Karanja constituency. While. Dr Alka Makasare remained in the fray as an independent candidate from Washim constituency.

As one of the office bearers of the District Congress Committee. Washim. she did her best to get the party ticket this lime . hut was denied ticket. In 2009. she contested Assembly election from Washim on the Congress party ticket .but was defeated. If we consider women's representation in contesting Assembly elections, it seems that either they are not given proper representation by the political parties or they lack the firm will and determination to make the headway. Only two women candidates who are contesting Assembly elections from Washim district, the elite society can very well judge the women's percentage in contesting elections or allocating tickets to women candidates by the political parties this time in the state and other pans of the country.
