A PRESS conference was held in Washim Colleclorate on Sunday to lake review of the preparations at administrative level a head of the State Assembly elections. Collector and returning Officer Uamchandra Kulkani informed media that the voters' lists are beingupdated.Total9.71akh voters have been registered who are eligible to cast votes in the Assembly segments of Washim, Riosd and Karanja in Washim district. Nearly. 38,000 new voters have also registered their names in the drive held in the district as per the directives issued by the Election Commission of India, Kulkami told.The drive got good response as youths, especially female folk, responded positively and registered their names as new voters, he added
The Collector also informed that total 9(tf main pollingbooths and II) auxiliary booths will be ready in Washim district. Necessary arrangements pertaining to polling booths are being made at the respective centres of the polling booths. Sufficient polling staff will be posted at the polling booths, he said.
With a view to increase the percentage of voting in this Assembly election, the district administration has been motivating voters to cast votes and thanks to this, the mentality of voters is changing, it was informed.
To create awakening among voters'NirdharRath'is also moving through the district in all the segments. The work of distributing voters slips has also been undertaken, it was informed.District Superintendent of Police Ramnath Pokle was also present in the meeting. He informed that inWashiin disirict total 40 pollingbooths have been identified as sensitive and 10 as very sensitive. Sufficient police staff will be posted at these booths so that the polling process can take place in a free and fair manner, he assured. Adequate deployment plan is almost ready for holding free and fair elections in the district, he added.
The DSp further said dial two cases of violation of model code of conduct have been registered and action has been taken. He said that the Police Department has sufficient manpower to ensurehassle-free polls. Besides, the help of SRP and para-mililary forces will also be taken, he said.
The returning officers, AROs and officers of the election machinery were also present on the occasion.
An Assembly election reference handbook compiled by District Information Office was also released at thehands ofCollector Ramchandra Kulkarni on the occasion.
