With only son based in US, elderly couple ends life

IN A heart-wrenching incident, a couple whose only son is settled in USA, ended lives in a suicide pact in Swavlambi Nagar area apartment on Sunday. The Mohril couple's deteriorating health along with loneliness seems to have weighed in their joint decision to commit suicide. The incident hassent shock waves in the locality.

Rana Pratap Nagar police idenified the deceased couple as Deepak Bhimrao Mohril (68) and Vasanti (61), residents of Ashirwad Nagar. The two consumed poison on Sunday morning in their 2BHK apartment triggeringgrief among residents of the area as the Issue of care of old-aged parents has came to fore. Number of such couples or single parent whose wards have immigrated to other countries, is increasing in the city. A maid servant arrived at the home for daily work and knocked at the door. She called the caretaker after Mohril couple did not respond to the repeated knocking on the doors. Sensing something fishy, the caretaker broke open the front door. However, the sight that greeted the caretaker and the maid servant inside the flat left them stunned as they stumbled upon lifeless bodies of Mohrils-Thecouplewassprawled on a bed in one of the bedrooms. The caretaker immediately informed police. A police team from Rana Pralap Nagar police station reached the spot and started investigations.

Ascniorpolice officer informed [hat the couple had consumed poison to end lives probably on late Saturday night.

The Mohrils are said to have been frustrated with deteriorating health, although they were financially sound. The prospect of living alone in case any one of them dies first weighed heavily and the two must have entered into the suicide pact.

Police said, inquiry with the maid servant revealed that Mohrils were not keeping good health after both of them were Injured in separate mishaps within a year.This confined them and mosdy bed-ridden.The maid servant used to come in momingand evening hours to cook food while the caretaker used to remain for the day Mohril's son is settled in the USA. The cops were unable to contact close relatives or the deceased couple as Mohrils had no relatives in the city. The police have registered a case of accidental death and informed  the son of the deceased about the deaths.
