Take effective steps to check undesirable

WOMEN'S Wing of Bharatiya Yatri Kendra (BYK) has taken-up the issues of non-availability of enough ticket counters at Nagpur station and also lack of safety for travellers.
In a letter to Chairman, Railway Board. Manorama Jaiswal. Secretary. Women's Wing. BYK. pointed out the spate of thefts being reported abroad trains. The trend is common whether one is travelling in lower class or higher class and thus a big question mark emerges on Railway's strategy to counter this. A traveller is spending huge money to patronise the railways and if basic safety is non available even in air conditioned class then one cannot think of plight of passengers in general and sleeper coaches.
Jaiswal has urged the Railway Board to take effective steps to put a check on such undesirable activities in trains.
Meanwhile in a letter to Divisional Railway Manager. Central Railway, Nagpur Division, the Ladies Wing has raised an important issue of slackness in keeping open all the tickets counters at Nagpur railway station and those in Ajni passenger reservation system (PRS).
Ratna Awasthi, Jt. Secretary, in her letter said there at 15 counters at Nagpur railway station and Ajni but at any given lime only eight counters are open. This includes three counters that is common for handicapped, elderly citizens, freedom fighters and for party booking (Tor all these categories there is just one counter), for VIP MP. MLA
and others just one counter functions and rest of seven counters remain closed on Western side PRS at Nagpur station.
Also on Santra Market side from four counters just one counter is kept open and at Ajni from eight ticket counters only four function in either shift. Awasthi mentioned to DRM that the peak travel season is on and summer holidays have also began and against this backdrop the closure of maximum counters is not in the interest of travellers.
The population in city is on rise and against it the number of counters issuing tickets is falling short and hence travellers do not gel confirmed ticket owing to delay as tickets gel cornered by touts. In fact, through such managed opening of counters the Railways is deliberately pushing travellers to opt for Tatkal tickets.
