Govt sitting pretty over NMC's cattle-shed proposal at Wathoda

MAHARASHTRA Government is sitting pretty on proposal of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to chaise reservation of 45 acres of land at Wathoda from Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) to Dairy Development for creation of cattle sheds The proposal Upending with the State Government for last six months. Municipal Commissioner Shyam Wardhane is trying hard to change reservation of land at Urban Development Department of State Government but his efforts did not hear fruits.
Urban Development Department Principal Secretary Manukumar Srivastava (who was incidentally Nagpur Collector. Municipal Commissioner and NIT Chairman) during his visit to Nagpur in December during winter session had discussed the issue with Municipal Commissioner and had promised to accord nod of the State Government expeditiously.
Nagpur has almost 1.000 cattle sheds They are situated in prominent areas. Municipal Commissioner has directed all cattle owners to shift cattle sheds outside Nagpur to protect people from vector-borne diseases. The cattle owners expressed inability and since they do not have any land bank for shifting, NMC stepped in to provide land to the owners Sources claimed that at present, the development control rules do not permit NMC to settle more than 1O animals a hectare land. As per this norm, only 200 cattle will he accommodated in these cattle sheds. Therefore. NMC requested State

Government to change user for this land from sewage to dairy farming.the NMC has prepared a proposal under the norms of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR).
Wardhane has mentioned this proposal in his proposed budget The total estimated expenditure on providing infrastruciure for providing canle sheds is Rs 52 ctores. The civic body is yel io decide policy for charging of land cost and infrastructure, however,  seems dial NMC will provide land on lease or rem hasis to cansle owners. It may be recalled that despile of several efforts and huge investments. the NMC has failed to catch stray cattle from the roads. The stray cattle pose huge threat to lives of vehicle riders. The corporators arc under pressure of canle owners and objected to increase rales for releasing cattle seized by the team. This is the only solution to keep cattle away from the city.
Slate Government should lake up this serious issue of Nagpur and provide them relief.
